Let's go back to last night - Sunday night.
Our cab picked us up early, for the half-hour drive to Tel Aviv.
The cab was a Mercedes van and the driver had In-flight entertainment!
We watched a helicopter tour of the whole country of Israel. It was a very fitting way to say goodbye, and Syl and I caught ourselves saying, "Yep. we saw that! "Yep! we went there." over and over again.
We arrived at the airport verrrry early for our 11:50pm flight to Newark. We spent sometime walking around and exploring.
Ever seen a kosher McDonalds? Well, now you have!
This (plus frequent inspection) is what makes it kosher.
The dairy and meat products are served from separate counters.
Here's the dairy menu: and the value meal menu:
Prices are in shekels, of course...
I found these in a candy shop. Can you tell what they are?
Yep. Bazooka Joe Bublegum! Check out the cartoon and the fortune in the picture below!
But be sure to read from right to left!
While we waited, we ran into one of the folks who toured with us. Meet Jeremiah!
Jeremiah told us that he was glad he came early. Security pulled him out of the line for a strip-search. No, really! I'm not kidding! He said the must have not liked the loose clothing he was wearing. He fit the profile, and was interrogated for a full hour. Mercy!
This was the "pre-boarding" line.
As soon as the attendant announced pre-boarding only, approximately 3/4 of the people waiting for the flight got up and stood in line. And they let them all on! Syl and I eventually got up and got in line. There was no call for "by row" seating.
The flight wasn't all that great. There were three babies on board and when one was happy the other two were not. All....Night...Long.
I had an aisle seat and every time I would doze off, someone would brush up against me as they headed down the aisle. I got no sleep at all for the whole flight, and Syl got three hours at most. Thus, I'm a little punchy this morning!
Once we got to Newark we had to wait in one line after another. We had to get visas stamped and declare why we took a trip. That took 20 minutes or more. Next we had to wait in line to declare what we bought. (Everybody had to do this whether you bought anything or not.) That was another 15 to 20 minutes. next we had to pick up our luggage and transfer it ourselves from the carousel to a conveyor belt about a block away that we were directed to. (again, everybody had to do this). That took a half-hour. Next we had to take a shuttle from terminal c to terminal a. The wait for the shuttle was another ten minutes. Next we had to be re-screened by homeland security since we went out of the "protected area" to get our luggage. That took a half hour or more. Total time of line-after-line was at least two hours. Blessedly, we had a tad over three hours before our flight to Charleston. I have no idea how people with closer connection times make it. By the way, I couldn't take any pictures during this wait. Pictures strictly prohibited in all areas!!
Isn't this a lovely sign?
As the sun slowly rises, I bid you Good morning from Newark! Yawn!
Our flight out of Newark was smooth. Snow on the ground up here!
Made it home!!
Syl couldn't wait for me to get out of the airport!
Sunny was waiting for us to take us home! a lovelier sight was never seen!
So - thank you one and all for all your prayers for Sylvia and me, and for those of you who gave to this trip, thank you for making a dream come true. You have blessed the Burwells mightily, we we thank our God for you in all our prayers.
See Ya Sunday!
